Pistol Chair - Warmt and comfort in a place ware its dark and cold.

This chair traces its origins back to my internship in the northern region of Norway, where I worked for three and a half months in a carpentry workshop. My task was to design a chair using two old cushions that had been stored in the warehouse for years.

When designing the chair, I drew inspiration from the surroundings of the workshop. Tromsø, located in the far north, experiences long periods of darkness in winter, where the sun doesn't rise above the horizon for months. This creates a stark contrast in the landscape's color palette: the sea is black, the land is covered in white snow, and the sky alternates between black and gray. The only moments of color occur when the northern lights illuminate the sky.

My aim was to break this somber color contrast with a warm, inviting chair. Crafted from Larch wood, this chair not only emanates a pleasant scent but also boasts a gentle hue. The transition from the light brown-red heartwood to the yellowish sapwood reminds me of the perpetual sunset lasting two hours each day during noon in this part of the world. The chair has no sharp angles, everything is rounded, making it exceptionally comfortable. The angle between the backrest and the seat is designed to encourage a semi-active sitting posture, perfect for reading a book. This chair invites you to take a moment of rest, ready to re-energize you for what lies ahead
